Allergy self-diagnosis putting people at risk "What's the difference between a food allergy and a food intolerance, and why do some many people seem to be cutting out certain foods from their diets on health grounds? Hilary Wickett, a registered dietician and lecturer at the University of Wales Institute, Cardiff explains FOOD intolerance seems to be an issue that people believe is much more of a common problem that it actually is. A study, published by the medical journal The Lancet, found that one in five adults in the UK consider that they have a food allergy or intolerance. Yet the same research also revealed true food allergies occur in fewer than one in 100 adults."
